PLANS UNDERWAY TO PRODUCE
THE 2012 TOUR DE STRONGLAND
TAKING PLACE ON
GRANT AVENUE IN VANDERGRIFT
AND THE ROARING RUN OFF-ROAD DAY
The StrongLand Bike Race Committee headed by Chamber Chairman, Frank Amato, Jr. met last week to begin the planning to get ready to launch the 24th Annual Tour de StrongLand to take place September 8th and 9th, 2012, with Saturday’s off-road race at Roaring Run and Sunday’s on-road races slated to start and finish at a festival on Grant Avenue in downtown Vandergrift. We’re excited by the prospects that this race brings, especially with Pro-Bike, Pittsburgh’s largest chain of bike shops, setting the pace and direction for the largest and oldest citizens bike race in Western Pennsylvania. Watch for the details to unfold as we approach summer, but don’t hesitate to call us if you would like to be a sponsor in this year’s world class competition. According to Frank Amato, Bike Race Chairman, we’re looking into some very new and interesting ways to celebrate the healthy sport of bicycle competition.
The on-road races will encompass a number of officially timed events as more than 300 racers ride through 14 of StrongLand’s 17 municipalities. The American Cycling Association (ACA) will be sanctioning and judging the 9 special bicycle events that will take place during the two day period. Categories will be set up so that everyone will have a chance to win. We’ll have 10, 20 and 30 mile highway races so that even if you’re working on endurance you’ll find the perfect race for your individual skills. Prizes will include cash, trophies, medallions and more. We’ll even have a tremendous bike to raffle off, provided by our tech sponsor. There will be something for everyone; in addition to the variety of races, we’ll have plenty of food booths, a fair sized farmers’ market, and arts and crafts booths, too. That’s September 9th, in Vandergrift. If you need more information you can give us a call at 724.845.5426.
